Tim Walz Campaigns in Macomb County, Michigan
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, the Democratic Party vice presidential nominee, campaigned in Macomb County, Michigan on Friday, stopping at Macomb Community College in Warren and delivering remarks before a group of about 100. The college is located a few miles north of Detroit, in Michigan’s third most populous county.
Friday’s stop came with 25 days to go until the 2024 election. The event was held one week after Vice President Harris’s campaign rally in Flint, Michigan on October 4th.
In his remarks, Walz responded to former President Donald Trump’s speech in Detroit on Thursday, which drew backlash after Trump stated “Our whole country will end up being like Detroit if she’s your president”. Trump’s remarks prompted a response ad from the Harris campaign, as well as condemnation from local elected officials and Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer.
Walz stated that all Donald Trump and JD Vance know about manufacturing is "manufacturing bulls*** every time they show up”, drawing applause from the crowd.
Walz’s remarks also touched on issues of manufacturing jobs, an integral part of the Metro Detroit economy. Walz stated “We need to release the full potential of American industry, cut red tape so we can build more and build faster”. He also emphasized support for union work and organized labor.
