First Lady Jill Biden Visits Michigan, Campaigns for Harris-Walz in Clawson
First lady Jill Biden visited Michigan on Monday, stopping at Three Cats in Clawson, Michigan for a Harris-Walz campaign event.
The event, held just over 6 miles north of Detroit in the city of Clawson, had about 100 in attendance, and also featured remarks from Congresswoman Haley Stevens, who represents the congressional district that includes Clawson. The first lady was introduced on stage by Joann Wright, a campaign volunteer.
Early in her remarks, Dr. Biden referenced the recent visit to the area by former President Donald Trump, saying “some have come to Detroit area recently, and thrown around some insults, but from what I’ve seen, this is a vibrant, thriving city”. The former President’s remarks at a Detroit Economic Club event on Thursday, in which he stated “Our whole country will end up being like Detroit if she’s your president” in reference to Vice President Kamala Harris, have continued to draw backlash and response from Democrats over the past few days.
The first lady discussed Harris’s plans regarding addressing grocery prices and housing, as well as the issue of abortion rights, saying she was “stunned” when Roe v Wade was overturned and that “As President, Kamala Harris will proudly sign a national law to restore reproductive freedom” nationwide.
