Gwen Walz Speaks at Field Office Drop-By & Canvass Launch in Ann Arbor, Michigan

Gwen Walz, First Lady of Minnesota and wife of Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Walz, visited Michigan and spoke at a Field Office Drop-By & Canvass Launch in Ann Arbor on Tuesday.

The visit marked Walz’s first time in Ann Arbor, and was one of several recent stops by Minnesota’s First Lady in battleground states in the lead-up to the November presidential election. The visit also comes days before voting begins in Michigan, with absentee ballots being made available later this week.

Walz spoke before a room of Democratic volunteers and supporters, telling those gathered “you’re the reason we’re going to send Vice President Harris and my husband Tim to the White House”. She spoke about her experience when Governor Walz was asked to be VP Harris’s running mate, and the adjustments made since then.

Walz encouraged the volunteers to continue door-knocking, making phone calls, registering family members to vote, and having conversations with undecided voters as well as “with people who have signs in their yards that we might not love”. Her remarks focused around volunteer work ahead of the election, with Walz sharing stories and tips to the crowd.

Walz greeted supporters following her remarks, shaking hands with event attendees in the field office.

Tuesday’s event also included remarks from Ann Arbor Mayor Christopher Taylor, who stated he was proud of the Harris-Walz ticket and thanked the crowd for their work.
