Detroit City Councilman Fred Durhal III Announces Mayoral Campaign

Fred Durhal III, member of the Detroit City Council, held a mayoral campaign announcement event at the Boys & Girls Club of Southeastern Michigan in Detroit's Nardin Park neighborhood on Wednesday evening

Durhal enters a growing field of contenders vying to lead Michigan's largest city, following incumbent mayor Mike Duggan's announcement in November that he will not seek re-election to a fourth term (Duggan is currently pursuing an independent run for Michigan governor in the 2026 gubernatorial election, seeking to succeed term-limited incumbent Gretchen Whitmer)

The mayoral election will be held on November 4th, 2025, with the winner elected to a four-year term
