Former Navy SEALs Speak in Support of Pete Hegseth, Trump’s Defense Secretary Pick
A group of veterans and former Navy SEALs spoke at a press conference Monday in support of Pete Hegseth, Trump’s pick to lead the Department of Defense.
Speakers at the event included veterans from the Navy, Army, Air Force and Marine Corps, as well as Senator Tommy Tuberville of Alabama. The press conference was held ahead of a planned march on Tuesday of former Navy SEALs in support of Hegseth, which will coincide with Hegseth facing a Senate confirmation hearing on Capitol Hill.
Supporters emphasized Hegseth’s prior military service in iterating their support, and talked about their concerns regarding the current state of the U.S. military. They expressed confidence that Hegseth would bring about desired changes if confirmed to head the DoD, and stated their intention to stand behind Hegseth as he faces what is expected to be a critical and highly-scrutinized confirmation hearing.
Former Navy Seal Bill Brown Jr. spoke about planned shows of support for Hegseth on Tuesday, which he said will include some going to attend his hearing in person, while others gather at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial for a march in DC.
